Robert Hossein was a French film actor and director of Parsi origin, known for his characteristic use of ritualistic relationships and extraordinary command of film space in his films. He directed the 1982 adaptation of Les Misérables and appeared in various notable roles, including the Angélique series and the Spaghetti Western Cemetery Without Crosses. A lifelong interest in Dostoyevski's works influenced his exploration of guilt and its destructive power.
