The Kidnapping of the Maidens

In 19th century Wallachia, Ottoman Turkish war-bands raid Wallachia with impunity, while the Phanariote rulers don't oppose them. A young boy named Amza is kidnapped by the haiducis, a band of Ottoman Turks led by Pazvanoglu, in exchange for an end to their raids. As the story unfolds, Haricleea's son, who was sent away as a child, is also taken captive and ultimately killed during one of the haiducis' attacks on a noble's palace.
