Imagining Argentina

The film "Imagining Argentina" (2003) is a drama set in 1977 Buenos Aires during Argentina's last military dictatorship, where theater director Carlos Rueda (Antonio Banderas) and his wife Cecilia (Emma Thompson), a dissident journalist, live under oppressive rule. After Cecilia is kidnapped by the secret police, Carlos begins to search for her, developing psychic powers that enable him to foresee the future and predict her fate, as well as the whereabouts of other detainees like Silvio Ayala (Rubén Blades). The film depicts graphic images of suffering, such as rape and torture, and was a joint production of USA/Argentina/Spain/UK.
