During the Ming dynasty, a commander of the jinyiwei, an elite secret service trained from childhood, is ordered to retrieve a box allegedly containing evidence of treason but instead discovers it holds the Imperial Seal, which is intended to be used to legitimise a coup in support of the exiled Prince Qing. Branded a traitor and forced to flee the capital, he takes refuge with a private security company and forms an alliance with a bandit gang to raid an outpost holding conspirators' forces. In a series of ambushes, the commander eliminates the remaining conspirators, killing his former brother-in-arms in the process, before facing off against Prince Qing's goddaughter, a highly-skilled warrior, in a final duel that ends in mortal combat.
