Totem

Tótem is a 2023 drama film written and directed by Lila Avilés, told largely through the perspective of its seven-year-old protagonist Sol (Naíma Sentíes), who hopes against hope that her father's birthday party will not be his last celebration with them. As daylight fades, Sol comes to understand that her world is about to change dramatically. The film depicts a Mexican household as they prepare for the birthday party, where Sol and her family members, including her aunts Nuri (Montserrat Marañón) and Alejandra, as well as her father Tonatiuh (Mateo García Elizondo), navigate their emotions amidst an unrestrained atmosphere that breaks the family bonds.
