The Fighter Pilot

In 2004, Kentaro Saeki is startled by his grandmother's revelation that his maternal grandfather Kenichiro was not his blood-relation. He and his sister Keiko visit former comrades of their grandfather Kyuzo Miyabe, who initially criticize him for being timid in battle. As they hear the stories from old comrade Izaki, Kentaro finally learns why Miyabe became a kamikaze pilot: he gave Izaki hope to save his life after being shot down over the ocean. The film follows Miyabe's journey as he flies solo, persuading his comrades that survival is worthwhile despite the desperate situation of their situation.
