In "La Carapate" (1978), lawyer Jean-Philippe Duroc (Pierre Richard) visits his client Martial Gaulard (Victor Lanoux), who has been sentenced to death for a murder he claims was unjustly committed. As the two men meet, a prison riot breaks out and Gaulard seizes the opportunity to escape, taking Duroc hostage along with him. The ensuing chaos leads to a nationwide manhunt for both men.
