State of Grace

State of Grace is a 1990 American neo-noir crime drama film directed by Phil Joanou and starring Sean Penn, Ed Harris, Gary Oldman, Robin Wright, John Turturro, and John C. Reilly. Set in Hell's Kitchen, New York City, the film follows Terry Noonan (Penn), an undercover cop who returns home after a ten-year absence to reconnect with his childhood friend Jackie Flannery (Oldman) and rekindle his love affair with Jackie's sister Kathleen. As tensions rise between the Irish mob run by Frankie Flannery (Harris) and their rival Italian gang, Terry is caught in a deadly maelstrom of danger, forced to confront his past and ultimately exact revenge on those who killed his friend Stevie and betrayed him as an undercover cop.
