Ingrid Bergman stars as Golda Meir, the Russian-born woman who rises to become Israel's prime minister in the late 1960s and early 1970s, recounting her life story from her childhood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she shares her experiences of Jewish persecution in Europe. As a young woman, she marries Morris Meyerson, played by Leonard Nimoy, with whom she eventually moves to Jerusalem and has two children, but their marriage is ultimately driven apart by her ambition. The film ends with President Anwar Sadat arriving in Israel.
