Sir Nigel Barnard Hawthorne was a renowned English actor born on April 5, 1929, in Coventry, Warwickshire. He is best remembered for his iconic role as Sir Humphrey Appleby in the 1980s sitcom Yes Minister and its sequel, earning four British Academy Television Awards for Best Entertainment Performance. Hawthorne also won a BAFTA Award for Best Lead Actor for his portrayal of King George III in The Madness of King George, and a Tony Award for his stage performance in Shadowlands.
