The Slender Thread

In "The Slender Thread," Sidney Poitier stars as Alan, a college student volunteering at a crisis center in 1960s Seattle, who must navigate a desperate situation when a woman named Inga (Anne Bancroft) calls him, revealing she has taken a lethal dose of pills and wants to talk before she dies. With the help of Dr. Joe Coburn (Telly Savalas), off-duty Detective Ridley (Ed Asner), and others, Alan makes a frantic race against time to locate Inga and her husband Mark (Steven Hill) before it's too late, tracing her call through electro-mechanical telephone central office switches to uncover her location.
