Porter Wren (Adrien Brody), a columnist and crime reporter for a New York City newspaper, is drawn into a very nasty case of sexual obsession and blackmail when Caroline Crowley, a seductive stranger, asks him to investigate the unsolved murder of her filmmaker husband Simon. Porter forms an image of Simon as an eccentric and controlling man, but his investigation reveals more about himself than the truth behind Simon's death. With Hobbs, a publishing magnate, threatening Porter's family, he must navigate a complex web of passion, blackmail, and deceit to uncover the truth.
