Camp X-Ray is a 2014 American drama film that tells the story of Amy Cole, a young woman who joins the military to be part of something bigger than herself and ends up as a guard at Guantanamo Bay. There, she forms an unlikely friendship with a detainee named Ali Amir, played by Payman Maadi, who tries to make conversation despite her initial coldness towards him. As Cole navigates the challenging environment of the detention camp, she becomes more isolated from her colleagues and is reassigned to the night shift. Through her interactions with Ali, Cole's feelings towards him soften, and she finds a sense of connection in a place where it may not be expected.
Amy Cole (Kristen Stewart) begins as an initial reaction force guard, becoming increasingly conflicted about her role and surroundings; corporal Randy is initially interested but then becomes antagonistic. Eight months later, Ali's situation changes when he apologizes to Amy and tells her his story: born in Germany, not involved with terrorist groups, a complex man torn between cultural norms and the harsh conditions of the detention camp.
