The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More 7.1
In this whimsical anthology of short films, Wes Anderson weaves together four fantastical tales from Roald Dahl's beloved stories. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More is presented as a series of telefilms that aired on Channel 7 in the UK from 1978 to 1981. Each film features visible stagehands performing scene changes while the same actors play multiple characters, adding to the surreal charm of the anthology. The story begins with Roald Dahl describing his writing process before diving into Henry Sugar's tale of a bachelor who uses his inherited fortune to fund his gambling habits. Henry discovers he can see through playing cards after 20 years of meditation practice, and he travels the world using this ability to win money at casinos and establish hospitals and orphanages. The second film is an adaptation of Roald Dahl's 1977 short story "The Swan", which follows a young boy named Peter Watson who survives being shot by his bullies when he sinks into a train trackbed. He then dives towards a lake, creating the image of an enormous swan flying over the village. In the final film, The Rat Catcher, a rat-catcher must combat a rodent infestation at a petrol station using unorthodox methods, including a demonstration where a ferret kills a live rat on his body.
