During a severe January snowstorm at Lincoln International Airport in Chicago, airport manager Mel Bakersfeld works overtime to clear the main runway of a Boeing 707 stuck in the snow while dealing with his failing marriage. Meanwhile, a suspicious person on board TGA Flight 2 to Rome unwittingly becomes embroiled in a plot by a suicidal bomber to detonate a bomb in flight, threatening to kill him and everyone else on board. The film expertly weaves together personal stories of airport staff and passengers as they navigate the crisis minute-by-minute, all while the storm rages on outside.
