Alice Evans, played by Brittany Murphy, travels to a Victorian-style home to finish a screenplay on time after a psychological breakdown. As she begins to hear strange noises and becomes convinced the house is haunted by Lucy Woods' ghost, her own dark past starts to surface through a series of disturbing videotapes featuring a couple whose circumstances eerily mirror hers. With Rebecca's research revealing the tragic events that led up to David Woods' descent into madness, Alice must confront the ghosts of her own troubled past and her friend's unsettling connection to Lucy.
