The Shepherd of the Hills

The Shepherd of the Hills is a 1941 American drama film starring John Wayne as Young Matt Matthews, a young moonshiner consumed by hatred and bitterness towards his absent father. A kindly stranger named Daniel Howitt (Harry Carey) arrives in the Ozarks, bringing positive change to the community and helping Young Matt find peace. As Young Matt's feelings for Sammy Lane (Betty Field), a girl who recognizes him as her long-lost father, come to light, he must confront his vengeful past and ultimately choose forgiveness over hatred.
