Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) is an NAACP lawyer traveling the country to defend people of color wrongly accused of crimes due to racial prejudice. In Bridgeport, Connecticut, he defends Joseph Spell, a chauffeur accused by his white employer, Eleanor Strubing, of rape. With the help of insurance lawyer Sam Friedman (Josh Gad), Marshall must navigate the case and its verdict, which ultimately leads to a "not guilty" decision.
