In war-torn 15th century Kyoto, on the eve of the Onin War, a band of outlaws led by Hyoe, a scoundrel with lethal sword skills, lead a deadly uprising against the corrupt Shogunate and its army, led by former friend-turned-archrival Doken. A rōnin, Hasuda Hyoe (Yo Oizumi), is hired by Honekawa Doken to prevent an uprising in Yoshizaka, but he soon joins forces with an orphan named Saizō (Wakana Matsumoto) to lead the insurgency against the shogunate. The duo's bravery and cunning inspire a large following, and they successfully launch a surprise attack on Kyoto, only to face off against Honekawa and the shogunate in a bloody showdown. As the battle rages on, Hasuda seeks revenge for the suffering of the innocent villagers, while Saizō navigates his complicated past and finds love with a courtesan named Ho-ōji (no actor mentioned).
