In 1900, Qin Fu (Liu Haoran), a young detective trained by Sherlock Holmes, and Ah Gui (Wang Baoqiang), a Chinese immigrant who was raised in a Native American tribe, team up to investigate the murder of Alice Grant's daughter in San Francisco's Chinatown. As they delve deeper into the case, they uncover a web of deceit and corruption that goes all the way to the top, including the politician seeking to exploit the Chinese Exclusion Bill and anti-Chinese sentiments to close down Chinatown and advance his mayoral campaign. Along the way, Qin and Ah Gui must navigate their own unlikely partnership, cultural differences, and the treacherous landscape of early 20th-century San Francisco.
