The film is set in May 1980 Seoul and follows Man-seob, a debt-laden widowed single father who works as a taxi driver. He unintentionally becomes involved in the events of the Gwangju Uprising when he takes on a job to drive German journalist Jürgen Hinzpeter (Thomas Kretschmann) from Seoul to Gwangju.
