In this powerful and emotional drama, two mothers, Audrey Grant (Julie Andrews) and Luanne Barnes (Ann-Margret), embark on a journey of self-discovery and acceptance as they confront their own prejudices and fears about their gay sons. When James admits to his mother that he is gay, Audrey's liberal attitude is strained, but she soon learns that the real challenge lies in informing her son's estranged mother, Luanne, that her dying son has AIDS. As they put aside their differences, these two women form an unlikely bond, and through their conversations and shared experiences, they learn to understand and support each other, ultimately leading to a profound emotional reconciliation between them.
