Johnny Belinda

The film "Johnny Belinda" tells the story of Belinda MacDonald, a deaf-mute young woman living on a farm in Nova Scotia, befriended by Dr. Robert Richardson, who teaches her American Sign Language and learns she is intelligent. The doctor's growing affection for Belinda grows, but their relationship is complicated when one of their acquaintances, Locky McCormick, rapes Belinda, resulting in her pregnancy. As the townspeople shun them due to gossip, the doctor leaves, and Belinda is left to care for her child, ultimately taking matters into her own hands.
