After fifteen years of marriage, novelist George Dunlap (Albert Finney) and his wife Faith are living a loveless life in Marin County, California. Their affair-ridden relationship devasts their four daughters, while their parents, George and Faith, struggle to co-parent amidst the chaos. The film follows the deteriorating marriage, separation, and infidelity that ravages the Dunlap family, ultimately threatening to tear them apart.
