The Woman Who Left

The Woman Who Left (2016) is a Philippine drama film written, produced, directed, and edited by Lav Diaz. It tells the story of Horacia Somorostro / Renata, played by Charo Santos-Concio, who after three decades of wrongful imprisonment for murder, discovers her friend and fellow inmate committed the crime, leading to her release and subsequent discovery of the man who framed her — her ruling class ex-lover, Rodrigo Trinidad. Filmed entirely in black-and-white, the film won the Golden Lion at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival and received acclaim from critics for its thoughtful portrayal of life's randomness and the struggles of the underprivileged.
