When Father Was Away on Business

In post-WWII Yugoslavia, six-year-old Malik is oblivious to his father Mehmed's sudden disappearance, which is actually due to his imprisonment in a labor camp for making a thoughtless remark that offended Communist officials. When Father Was Away on Business tells the story from Malik's perspective as he copes with his father's absence alongside his mother Senija and relatives.
