The Mad Miss Manton

When socialite Melsa Manton (Barbara Stanwyck) discovers a murdered body in her home, she's initially labeled a prankster by the press and police. However, she and her friends, including newspaper editor Peter Ames (Henry Fonda), prove their detective skills by solving the murder mystery while navigating a series of zany misadventures and romantic entanglements. As they close in on the killer, Melsa's friend Frances Glesk provides an alibi for suspect Edward Norris, who ultimately confesses to the crimes.
