The Inspector General

Danny Kaye stars as Georgi in The Inspector General, a 1949 American musical comedy film directed by Henry Koster. Georgi, a naive Gypsy, is mistaken for an inspector general by corrupt officials in a small town, who fear he will discover their tax money embezzlement and kill him. As the story unfolds, Georgi reunites with his friend Yakov (Walter Slezak), helps Leza (Barbara Bates) and Maria (Elsa Lanchester) thwart the Mayor's corrupt plans, and ultimately becomes the new Mayor of Brodny after being praised for his honesty by the real Inspector General.
