In 1956, with Morocco's independence, Tangier is in turmoil as William Barres rules the city's underworld following his rival Marchetti's assassination. Richard Corrigan, a private detective with debts to pay, receives an offer from a Swiss lawyer to deliver an envelope to a young woman in exchange for a large sum of money. Claudia Marchetti, under a false identity, is the recipient of this mysterious message, and Corrigan unwittingly becomes entangled in her quest for vengeance against her father's killer.
