A woman puts her life on the line to protect her troubled, enigmatic cousin, Winthrop, who has been targeted and hunted by a powerful supernatural force. After caring for her dying mother, Ellen Hershbergen leaves Buffalo and settles in Pontiac, New York, where she hopes to rebuild her life. Ellen is a former clothing designer and children's author who now volunteers at a Catholic church, Character Name (Carla Gugino). When a relative asks her to house her distant cousin Winthrop, she agrees. Winthrop is a discharged soldier suffering from severe trauma, played by Lou Taylor Pucci. Their neighbor Vahna gradually forces her way into Ellen’s life, leading to a series of events that culminate in a sinister and supernatural plot.
