The 2017 film "Mary Shelley" follows Mary Godwin, the daughter of the pioneering feminist writer Mary Wollstonecraft and her husband, William Godwin, as she navigates her first love and romantic relationship with poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, which inspired her to write her 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. Elle Fanning stars as Shelley, with a supporting cast that includes Bel Powley as Claire Clairmont and Douglas Booth as Percy Shelley. The film explores Mary's relationship with Shelley, her marriage, and the creation of her iconic novel, as well as her tumultuous personal life, including her complicated relationship with her stepmother and her affair with Lord Byron.
