Volunteers

In "Volunteers," Tom Hanks plays Lawrence Bourne III, a spoiled Yale graduate who flees to Thailand as a Peace Corps Volunteer after accumulating a $28,000 gambling debt. He befriends John Reynolds (Tim Thomerson), but Reynolds is revealed to be working with communist forces, and Lawrence teams up with his friend At Toon (Gedde Watanabe) to outsmart them. In the end, Lawrence rescues his fellow PCV Beth Wexler (Rita Wilson) from danger, and they get married in a Thai village, but he reveals he's still more of a gambler at heart.
