The Island at the Top of the World

In 1907, widowed British aristocrat Sir Anthony Ross hastily arranges an expedition to the Arctic to search for his lost son, Donald, who has become lost on a whaling expedition to find the fabled island where whales go to die. The expedition becomes entangled with a lost civilization of Norsemen, hidden from the rest of the world for centuries, and must navigate treacherous terrain and fanatical Viking descendants to escape with their lives. Along the way, they encounter killer whales, a virtuous girl named Freyja who helps save them from certain death, and ultimately outwit their pursuers to escape the island and return to civilization, leaving behind one of their own as a hostage to keep its existence a secret.
