Biography

Makoto Iwamatsu, known professionally as Mako, was a Japanese-American actor born in Kobe, Japan, who joined his parents in the United States after World War II. He trained at the Pasadena Playhouse and discovered his theatrical talent during his military service, later becoming a naturalized American citizen. Noted for roles in "Memoirs of a Geisha", "Bulletproof Monk", and "Seven Years in Tibet", Mako was nominated for Academy, Golden Globe, and Tony Awards throughout his five-decade career spanning 165 productions.
