Seven Years in Tibet

Brad Pitt plays Heinrich Harrer, who leaves his pregnant wife to climb in the Himalayas, and after being arrested by British authorities for being an enemy alien during WWII, escapes from a POW camp in India with friend Peter Aufschnaiter (David Thewlis) and travels to Lhasa, Tibet. There, he becomes friends with the 14th Dalai Lama and teaches him Western culture, but also condemns his friend Kungo Tsarong for betraying Tibet by surrendering to Chinese forces in the Battle of Chamdo.
