Dreamgirls

In 1962 Detroit, three African American female soul singers - Lorrell, Deena and Effie - form a trio of singing sensations who cross over to the pop charts in the early 1960s, facing their own personal struggles along the way. With the help of record producer Curtis Taylor Jr., they become embroiled in show business and its dark underbelly, including racism, misogyny, and addiction. As Effie's star rises and falls, she must confront her complicated relationships with Curtis and her own identity, while Deena navigates the treacherous landscape of fame and marriage to their ruthless manager. Set against the backdrop of American R&B music in the 1960s and 1970s, "Dreamgirls" is a powerful and poignant tale of female empowerment and the true cost of stardom.
