The Producers

A conniving Broadway producer and his meek accountant scheme to profit from charming wealthy old biddies to invest in an overbudget production, and then put on a sure-fire disaster, so nobody will ask for their money back — and what's more disastrous than a tasteless musical celebrating Adolf Hitler. This satirical black comedy film follows the unlikely partnership between Max Bialystock and Leopold "Leo" Bloom as they concoct a plan to make a fortune by fraudulently overselling shares in a stage musical designed to fail, featuring a play that pays homage to the infamous Nazi leader. With its irreverent humor and biting satire, The Producers became a cult classic and earned Mel Brooks an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
