In 1988, New Orleans hitman Roy Cady is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and storms out of his doctor's office, sparking a fateful decision that leads him to flee with young escort Rocky Arceneaux after she reveals herself as his latest target. On the drive to Galveston, Rocky shares her troubled past, including a childhood trauma involving her stepfather, which Roy tries to reconcile while also evading his boss and navigating his complicated feelings for Rocky.
