In this poignant romantic drama, Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Don Jon Martello, a charismatic New Jersey bartender struggling with unrealistic expectations stemming from his excessive exposure to hardcore pornography. As he navigates a complicated on-again, off-again romance with the beautiful Barbara Sugarman, played by Scarlett Johansson, Jon's journey is marked by hilarious moments of self-delusion and poignant struggles with intimacy and connection.
