Two high school girls, Betsy Jobs (Kirsten Dunst) and Arlene Lorenzo (Michelle Williams), sneak onto a White House tour and accidentally foil a burglary attempt. They become the official dog walkers for President Richard Nixon's dog Checkers and inadvertently influence major events like the Vietnam peace process and the Nixon-Brezhnev accord by bringing along baked marijuana-infused cookies that Nixon eats, leading him to paranoia. The girls learn the secrets of the Watergate scandal and decide to reveal everything to Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, becoming the legendary "Deep Throat" figure who helps bring down President Nixon's presidency.
