Kikue Mōri

Biography

Kikue Mōri was a renowned Japanese actress and theatre pioneer, born in 1903 as Kiiku Mori, with her later married name being Moori. A protégée of esteemed director Kishida Kyūsuke, she co-founded the Kyoto-based Kuraumi-za theatre company, which became a landmark institution for New Japanese Theatre. Mōri is celebrated for her distinctive performances in films and television dramas, as well as her numerous awards and accolades, including the prestigious "Mumiyō" prize. She passed away in 2001 at the age of 97.
