Koreya Senda
Biography
Koreya Senda was a renowned Japanese theatre director, playwright, translator, and actor born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1904 to an architect father. He adopted his stage name after being mistaken for Korean during the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake, leading him to clarify his identity with a student ID and recite Japanese historical names. Senda founded the Haiyuza Theatre Company and translated Bertolt Brecht's works for post-WWII Japan.
