Sotigui Kouyaté

Biography

Sotigui Kouyaté was a Malian-Burkinabé actor and member of the Mandinka ethnic group, born in Mali to Guinean parents. He founded a theatre company in 1966, wrote his first play at age 20, and collaborated with renowned director Peter Brook on various projects. Kouyaté is also notable for being one of the first Malian Burkinabé actors to gain recognition in European productions, appearing in films like "London River" (2009) and "Golem, the Spirit of the Exile" (1992).
