Billy Barty was a talented actor and activist born William John Bertanzetti on October 25, 1924. Due to cartilage-hair hypoplasia dwarfism, he stood just 3 feet 9 inches tall, leading to casting as a comedic foil in films opposite taller performers. As an advocate for people with dwarfism, Barty founded the Little People of America organization in 1957 and became a regular on children's TV programs in the early 1970s.
