Biography

Dame Celia Elizabeth Johnson was a British actress known for her roles in the films In Which We Serve (1942), This Happy Breed (1944), and Brief Encounter (1945). Her performance in the latter earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, as well as multiple BAFTA nominations and two wins. She continued performing in theatre and television throughout her life, including a notable win for her work in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) and Mrs. Palfrey at the Claremont (1973).
