Nikolaj William Coster-Waldau was born on July 27, 1970, in Rudkøbing, Denmark, to a librarian and her late husband. He graduated from the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen in 1993, marking his beginning as a professional actor. His breakthrough role came with the film Nightwatch in 1994, followed by a notable stint as Jaime Lannister in the HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones, for which he received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
