Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954, in rural Mississippi to a teenage mother and later raised by her father Vernon in Nashville, Tennessee. She began her career at 19 as a co-anchor for the local evening news and transitioned to radio before landing her breakout role hosting the Chicago talk show that ran nationally for 25 years from 1986 to 2011. Dubbed "Queen of All Media," she became one of the world's most influential women, ranking as the richest African-American of the 20th century by 2007.
