Yôko Umemura was a renowned Japanese film actress, born Suzuki Hanako on October 21, 1903, in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. She began her stage career as a child and transitioned to film, captivating audiences with her work alongside directors Yasujiro Shimazu and Kenji Mizoguchi. Her notable roles include Umekichi in "Gion no kyôdai" (1936) and Sumiko Asai in "Naniwa erejî" (1936), cementing her status as a prominent figure in 1930s Japanese cinema.
