Virginia Mayo was a talented American actress born on November 30, 1920, in St. Louis, Missouri. She gained widespread recognition for her roles in the war drama The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), the film noir White Heat (1949), and the war adventure Captain Horatio Hornblower (1951). Mayo's performances with comedian Danny Kaye in a series of popular comedy films also cemented her status as Warner Bros.' biggest box-office draw in the late 1940s.
