Shemp Howard was an American actor and comedian born Samuel Horwitz on March 11, 1895, in Brooklyn, New York. He is best known for his role as the third Stooge in The Three Stooges, a role he first portrayed from 1923 to 1932 and again from 1946 until his death in 1955. Between his Stooges stints, Shemp had a successful solo film career, and his trademark humor often featured ad-libbed dialogue and a distinctive "bee-bee-bee" sound.
